Where are we?

We are a national Christian newspaper published every two weeks in England. Our name reflects our origin but is not meant to be exclusive or imperialistic. We write not only for the English, not only for the Church and not only for Men. We have been around since the 18th Century in one form or another. We have survived while much of the rest of the country has gone mad. We hope that we are Protestant in the best sense of the word, ie we follow the Bible following those who laid down their lives for truth and freedom in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th Century.

In this world of deceit and lies and fear and terror where are we to turn? We must turn from our sins and come to God. But how can we hear God? There are many ideas but there is only one sure Word of God and that is the Bible. The great promises of God to desperate mankind are sealed with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the World. Other people claim to have mystical powers to help you but we warn you to avoid such false prophets and false teachers who claim to have greater power than Jesus Christ. They are lining their own pockets and destroying people. You should rather put your whole trust, not in any man, but in the Lord Jesus Christ and then you will have peace in the midst of this evil and frightening world. This is the position that the English Churchman takes as when we report the news we do not do it as if God is not or may not be there but we write in the confidence that God is there and that we can and must call upon Him and obey Him. "For God so loved that world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (Gospel of John, Chapter 3, Verse 16)
